Severe weather hit areas of the Deep South over the weekend, bringing tornadoes and golf ball-sized hail and causing damage to vehicles, homes and roads. The National Weather Service declared parts of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana a level four out of five for severe weather.
On Friday, March 24, a tornado struck the town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi, damaging homes, buildings and vehicles, downing trees and closing several roads and highways. A tornado was confirmed in Georgia on Sunday morning, with streets shut down and people asked to stay off the roads due to damage and moving debris. A tornado watch was issued in central and southern Alabama.
Hail and strong winds brought on by the severe thunderstorms over the weekend also caused damage to vehicles and homes. Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi reported golf ball-sized hail, with quarter-sized hail reported in central Illinois.
