The first nor’easter of the season has hit the Northeast, bringing heavy snowfall and causing widespread power outages.
The storm hit late Monday night and is expected to taper off Wednesday. It brought over two feet of snow to parts of New York, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts – with up to three feet in isolated areas of high elevation – according to the National Weather Service.
The heavy, wet snow, coupled with strong winds of up to 50 miles per hour, has brought down power lines and threatened to down trees. As of Tuesday night, more than 250,000 people were without power from New York to Maine, according to the national outage tracker PowerOutage.us.
